How do you feel when you look at a picture or statue of Ganesha? That is how your root chakra wants to feel.
There are hundreds of parallels that can be made between ganesha and the root chakra, we will focus on just a few.
Ganesha is traditionally known to be the ‘obstacle breaker’. Mantras are said to Ganesha to help remove obstacles, blockages or anything that might be in your path.
My personal experience in working with this energy is ‘creating without obstacles’. The path that I found most effective when using this energy was creating my reality without the obstacles in the first place.
This is a pretty important energy to carry within your root chakra, remember your root chakra is your connection to the reality here on this earth, it is your perception of your reality.
Our perception of our reality can give us a good indicator of where our root chakra is on a scale. How safe and secure do we feel on a moment to moment basis. Ganesha is a symbol of our perception. As we learn to perceive our reality without obstacles, we start to experience a reality without obstacles.
The story of Ganesha’s creation gives us another perspective and more layers of similar energy. His mother Parvati, rubbed her sweat and sandalwood together, creating a boy of great beauty to guard her bath. As she took her bath, her husband shiva arrived and wanted to enter the bath, Ganesha stopped Shiva and in response, Shiva cut off his head. After some discussion with Kali, Shiva then replaced Ganesha head with that of an elephant.
Once our creations have manifested, they are meant to evolve, stagnation is not natural. This story shows us a few different lessons. We learn that both masculine and feminine are required for creation, as well as our creations must evolve, even after they are manifest.
Traditionally ganesha is used at the beginnings of all projects, all puja’s begin by invoking the energy of ganesh. This is another correlation he has with the root chakra. The start of the journey of your energetic system is also invoked through the energy of ganesha.
One last parallel, ganesha is within our root, guarding our window of creation. The root is the gateway into this dimension, it is how we percieve the reality we have created. All manifestations into this reality must move through the root energetically prior to being realized within this plane.
Just as Ganesha guarded the bath of parvati, he guards the doorway to our reality, our perception of it as well as our experience of it.
